Search Engine Marketing Stats and Facts
Posted by Scott under Paid Search , Search Engine Optimization , Conversion/OptimizationI just posted the Search Marketing Fact Pack from Advertising Age and eMarketer here. The PDF is chock full of stats, facts, insights, tips and lists. It also includes lots of ads from search engine marketers to pay for the publication. I highly recommend saving it as a resource for pitches and insights.
The most interesting table in the report is on page 34 which compares conversion rate for paid search vs organic search by campaign goal. SEO has an average conversion of 4.2% across all goals vs 3.6% for paid search. The interesting part is the difference by goal. Paid search wins for the following goals: registration data, specific action taken (my guess is due to landing pages) and offline conversion. Organic performs better when delayed e-commerce or service purchase and e-commerce product or service purchase are the primary objectives. The difference in these two categories outweighs the smaller differences in the other three objectives. Check it out.
